Kode |Congrats on how successful Bitten has been, What do you think makes it different from other scifi shows??
Laura | Thank you! I feel that the family dynamic you get on Bitten is a huge part of why the fans come back every week. The audience truly cares for the characters and their relationships and their well being. They come back to spend time with the characters each week. Yes it is a scifi series but that is just an element of the show. The real heart of Bitten lies with the stories our writers tell, the characters struggles and triumphs.
Kode | You also played Supergirl in Smallville, Which character has been the most fun to play?
Laura | That is a tough decision. It is like choosing your favorite child. But Elena on Bitten is very close to my heart. I connect with her more than any other character I have played.
Kode | Lets face it, Elena is a sexy woman. We couldn’t imagine it being hard for you playing a strong female lead.
Laura | I tend to always find myself leaning to towards the strong women roles... But women who are also very emotionally damaged or broken. They are dealing with some sort of deep struggle within. A dark secret. They appear to hold it together on the outside...but are slowly unraveling. I find that compelling to watch as an audience member myself when I chose shows to invest in. As an actor I find these roles challenging and rewarding.
Kode | What is your most memorable experiences on the show on or off the camera? Make it juicy.
Laura | It is not juicy but it was memorable. (Spoiler alert) At the end of the second season Elena dies in her soulmate’s arms. It was a tough emotional day onset with Greyston Holt who plays Clay. I will never forget it. We were both a mess. It was a magical experience to share that scene with him. On a lighter note, we have a lot of fun off camera on the show. The guys are all wonderful to be around. There was one scene where they needed close ups of us running through the woods. Our director had the idea to have us running on the spot. We all felt like fools, yet videotaped one another doing it. We laughed pretty hard. It was one of those moments where we all genuinely laugh together that are memorable to me.
Kode | Do you see any common characteristics with yourself and Elena?
Laura | Her need to belong! Her need to prove her worth and strength. Her resilience to being torn down. (on a more basic note... in the books Elena is from Toronto and born September 22nd. We share the same birth place and birthday! So that has to be something!!)
Kode | Let’s talk the Bitten fans, What was your reaction to the #RenewBitten and the amazing support?
Laura | I thought it was incredible to see their passion after season one. The fans really supported the series and muscled their way to have their voices heard with the #RenewBitten campaign. They are all incredible and we could not do it without them!!!
Kode | When is Bitten coming back? I know everyone is literally counting down the days!
Laura | It is too early for me to know. We begin shooting season 3 at the end of August in Toronto! I am sure the premiere date will be announced in due time ;) We just can not wait to get back to work!
Kode | This is our #WetHot issue, Give us a peek into your perfect summer day?
Laura | My perfect summer day!!? Hmmm, would be sleeping in (who does not want that) and then having an amazing cup of coffee in bed. Spend the day out with my dog Frankie and then maybe go to the beach or a BBQ with friends and family! A nice cat nap in the afternoon... And something I have always wanted to do is go to a summer drive-in movie theaters outdoors! Watch an old Hitchcock film under the stars!
Kode | Last question, Any spoilers that you can spill the deets on?
Laura | NOPE! I know nothing! (Even if I knew what seasons 3 had in store.... I am not giving anything away.)
